CircularPSP is excited to announce the completion of Phase 0 and the commencement of Phase 1 of its initiative to tackle the challenges of the circular economy in cities and municipalities. After a rigorous evaluation process, five innovative suppliers have been chosen to lead the charge. These suppliers are:

  1. CircularAI (Swappsi Software, INNCISO Innovation, GTE Sustainability and Energy Consultancy, TÜBİTAK, Algomedi Information Technologies)
  2. CIRRUS (Metabolic)
  3. CREVICES (VXT Research, Hahmota Oy, VTT)
  4. Supercharge-Beyondly (Supercharge, Beyondly)
  5. VCG (VCG.AI)

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all 15 tenderers for their invaluable contributions. Tackling the complexities of the circular economy is no small feat, and the dedication of these pioneers is essential for our society and economy.

Phase 1: Solution Design

As we transition into Phase 1, here’s what’s on the agenda:

  • Collaboratively refining concepts
  • Testing AI and platform solutions
  • Providing input for a viable and reliable business model that cities and regions can confidently invest in

The solutions were presented during the suppliers’ kickoff meeting, where selected suppliers began developing the solution architecture and specifications based on CircularPSP requirements, use cases, and service process models. The progress of the work will be monitored through bi-weekly status calls, facilitated by a dedicated MS Teams setup with both public and private channels for each supplier. This platform enables questions and bilateral exchanges while ensuring non-discriminatory access to materials collected during WP1.

A Co-Design Approach

The design phase emphasises a strong co-design approach with frequent engagements with the buyers group. This bottom-up approach aims to improve the scalability and openness of the software beyond the PCP, ensuring low-hurdle adoption by users from various backgrounds, even when their organisations currently lack a Circular Economy (CE) mission.

Key Areas of Focus

The suppliers are tasked with addressing the Common Challenge across four interlinked areas of need:

  1. Information: Leveraging AI and NLP to support cities and businesses in accessing, understanding, and applying distributed and often unorganized knowledge on CE transition.
  2. Strategic Approach & Operation: Providing cities with a roadmap for sustainable transition and enabling all staff to act more circular in their day-to-day tasks.
  3. Organisation: Developing advanced tools that consolidate circular data and knowledge, supporting improved communication and networking within and beyond municipal borders.
  4. Change & Upskilling: Fostering a new organizational culture through personalized upskilling linked to real-world problems, encouraging a shift towards circular practices.

Looking Back at Phase 0

Reflecting on Phase 0, partners agreed that that key to the success of Phase 0 was a 𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐬𝐦𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬. Each procurer carried out focus groups and open market consultation, accompanied by a strong and knowledge coordination team, regular active dialogue between the different procurers, and constant communication flow

Another key element was ensuring attractivity and transparency for suppliers from the start, providing them extensive opportunities to get insights on the needs of the procurers.
